Adoptable Horses
We are scheduling adoption appointments for the following Saturdays (we add dates further in the year as we know availabilities):
Saturday, January 24 & 31, 2026; February 14, & 28, 2026; March 7 & 21, 2026 ~ If you are local, we can also set up an adoption appointment late afternoon during a weekday. (The reason we hold appointments on Saturdays is because we also work full-time outside of running the rescue.)
How to adopt from Love this Horse:
Please note that not all available horses are featured on our website because we have more adoption applications than available horses to adopt. Thus, when a horse is available, we may already have a qualified potential adopter in our applications.
1. Email us for an application at [email protected] or message us on social media with your email address.
2. We will review the application and reach out to set up an adoption appointment here at the rescue to meet/ride the horse(s) you are interested in.
We ask for a $50 donation for this adoption appointment, payable prior to the appointment via PayPal.me/lovethishorse or Venmo @lovethishorse. The $50 will be applied to the adoption fee, if you find a match.
We try our best to predict which horses will still be available for you to meet when you come for your adoption appointment; however we do not guarantee that the horse you are interested in will be available during your adoption appointment.
Our adoption philosophy is that we do what is in the best interest of the horse. That includes making sure that horses are not held up waiting for adoption appointments. Horses are adopted once we find a good match (see next steps).
4. Come for an adoption appointment.
What to expect for your adoption appointment:
Meet/ride the horse(s) you are interested in adopting that are at the rescue. We are focused on a good rider/horse match because we want permanent homes for our adopted horses. Therefore, we often ask potential adopters to ride our most reliable horse Sharif on trail, along with the horse you are interested in. Then we switch over and we accompany you while you are riding the horse you are interested in. We reserve the right to refuse to introduce or let you ride a horse based on our in-person assessment.
Our goal is to ensure the safety and happiness of all involved. We kindly ask that when you are here, please be understanding of our decisions and responses. We are frequently asked at adoption appointments if there are any other horses available, and why a certain horse is not available for adoption yet. Many of our horses are sanctuary horses or not yet ready for adoption. Some horses may already have a potential adopter, or we know based on our training with the horse that it will not be a good match. Matching involves more than just riding skills. Some horses we have found need specific living arrangements or feed needs to be a successful companion to humans. We strive to share what we can about our organization and all the horses here but remember that the time asking us questions takes away from us helping you find your forever horse during your adoption appointment. For the latest information on all our available horses and horses looking for sponsors, check our website and our social media.
Please do not bring your dog(s) to the rescue without talking to us first. We have rescue dogs at the rescue, and we have to lock them up if you bring your dog(s).
5. If you and one of our horses is matched, we ask you to pay the adoption fee, via check, PayPal (+2.5% for the PayPal fees) or Venmo. This adoption fee is held in escrow until the adoption is finalized.
Being "matched" to a horse means that we have determined from our interactions with you and the information you provided that you meet the requirements to adopt a specific horse.
If you meet a horse that is not quite ready to go home with the adopter, we offer the "Dibs Program". You pay half of the adoption fee of the horse as a deposit. This deposit is refundable pending the completion of his/her training. Once the horse completes training, you come back to ride the horse and we assess if the horse continues to be a match under saddle with you. If the horse is not a match, the deposit is refundable.
Adoption fees are non-negotiable.
6. We will check your references to verify where the horse will live. We will continue conversations with you regarding your adoptee and logistical arrangements for the move.
We welcome pre-purchase exams (PPEs), but they have to be done prior to the adopted horse leaving to your home. We have two veterinary options for PPEs. However, we have to ask you to pay for transport at $1.50/mile to and from the vet hospitals, plus for our transporter's time.
7. You fill out the adoption contract.
8. You bring your horse home with you.
If we have pedigree papers for the horse, those will come with the horse.
We have a 30-day-trial period for each adopted horse where the horse can be returned for a partial refund. As mentioned above, we want permanent homes for our adopted horses, thus we want a good match. Ages listed are our veterinarians’ and our best estimates, unless we have a registered horse or the horse comes with a known history.
We do adopt to out-of-state homes; however, we require the potential adopters to come to our rescue to meet and ride the horse(s) they are interested in adopting. We are looking for good matches. We do not believe that a good match can be made without meeting and riding the horse in person.
We ask that horses are picked up in slant load trailers, no straight load trailers. They are not safe in our opinion. If your trailer has a ramp, please let us know in advance, so that we can practice.

RYDERRyder is an Arabian gelding who is the most amazing horse on trail. He loves it and we often ride him out on trail bareback and in a halter. He is confident and calm. He does not like being tied and ground ties. Also, we have no issues picking up his feet to clean them, but when the farrier tries to use tools on his hooves, he slams his feet down onto the ground. We are working on this with him. One thing about Ryder is that he will trust his persons and has a mistrust of strangers on the ground.

DoloresDolores is a half-Arabian/half-QH mare. Her face and neck is very Arabian, but her body looks more like a QH. She is extremely sweet and well-mannered on the ground. In a herd setting she gets pushed around. She does best with one other horse or in her own paddock. Dolores is bred, we do not know what kind of horse she was bred to, as we rescued her already pregnant. We had an ultrasound examination done and she is due August 2026.
We normally do not adopt out mares when they are pregnant, but are open to adopting her to a home that is capable and has the knowledge of caring for a pregnant mare, has knowledge of the foaling process and experience with caring and training a foal. If we cannot find a suitable home for her while pregnant, we will wait until her foal is weaned to adopt her out in the future. Dolores appears to be well broke, appears to be western trained and knows how to neck rein. We are going to continue riding her for now, exposing her to different trail conditions etc. to get to know her better. Name: Dolores Gender: mare Breed: Arabian/Quarter Horse Age: 8 years old Height: 15.2h Color: Chestnut Rider Level: Intermediate, western trained Dolores is up to date with her immunizations, worming, farrier work. Pending Adoption- AndalusiaAndalusia is a purebred Andalusian mare. She is very sweet and has a puppy-dog personality. She is very willing and trusts her human caretakers. We are in the process of starting her under saddle and she is in the early stages of her training. For a home, we would want one that has Andalusian horse experience and who will make this beautiful mare shine. We were told that she is registered, but her papers did not come with her when we rescued her at auction. We have had her pregnancy checked and she is not bred.
Andalusia will be available to go home with her permanent adopter once we have completed her saddle training. She gets along well in a herd environment. Andalusia has had foals in the past, however, she will only be adopted out on a no-breeding contract.
